St. Johns County changes middle school schedule St. Johns County changes middle school scheduleIn an effort to make school scheduling more cost efficient for the 2008-2009 school year, the St. Johns County School District has changed the middle school schedule to maximize student contact time in both core and elective classes. This change in the length of the middle school daily schedule also requires a shift in school start order to prevent longer transportation schedules. In order to operate more efficiently next year, the school district has changed the order of school starting and ending times. Middle schools will start at 7:50 a.m. and dismiss at 2 p.m. Elementary schools will start at 8:30 a.m. and dismiss at 2:50 p.m. High schools will start at 9:15 a.m. and dismiss at 3:45 p.m. All schools will observe early release on Wednesdays for the purpose of staff development, teacher planning and parent conferences. An advantage of having the same early release day for all grade levels is that it provides a consistent weekly schedule for families. There may be minor fluctuations in these schedules but no school will start earlier than the established start time and no school will dismiss later than the established dismissal time. Actual bell schedules will be communicated by the individual schools. The 2008-2009 school year begins on Friday, August 22.
