Masked gunmen hit Fernandina bank

Masked gunmen hit Fernandina bank

FERNANDINA BEACH, FL - The Fernandina Beach Police Department has confirmed that the First Federal Savings Bank, located at 1500 Sadler Road, was robbed by two armed gunmen at approximately 1:48 PM Tuesday afternoon.

Bank surveillance video caught these shots during the robbery.
Both suspects wore Halloween-style masks and gloves, and both jumped the bank counter immediately upon entering the bank. They brandished handguns and carried a black bag. The suspects removed cash from two teller stations and fled the bank in a white Dodge Stratus.

Fernandina Beach police officers responding to the call located the vehicle less than two minutes after the original call. The vehicle had been abandoned on Oak Street, a short distance from the bank, and the suspects apparently fled from that location in a staged vehicle. The Dodge had been reported stolen from a movie theater  parking lot in Ormond Beach on Monday.

According to witnesses and bank surveillance video, it took only forty-eight seconds from the time the robbers entered the store until they fled. Nobody was injured.

Fernandina Beach police are coordinating their investigation with the FBI, as they believe that this incident is related to recent similar events. Another Nassau County bank in Yulee was robbed in July. At that time the robbers also escaped in one vehicle and had another one waiting a short distance away.
