Escaped prisoner found

Escaped prisoner found in Tennessee

The search is over for an inmate at the Columbia Correctional Institution near Lake City who escaped Tuesday afternoon.

William J. Steele

William J. Steele, 36,  was apprehended in Tennessee Saturday after several days of freedom.

He was part of an inmate crew working outside the prison when he disappeared shortly before 1:00 p.m. on August 5th.

Authorities now say they believe the escape was prearranged.

According to the Department of Corrections, he was serving a sentence on charges out of Bradford and St. Johns counties including burglary, grand theft, fleeing and attempted to elude and driving with a suspended or revoked license.
