School supplies available

Fernandina Beach Church of Christ will hold its annual School Supply Giveaway for any child in need on Aug. 17 from 1-3 p.m. To reserve your supplies call 261-9760 before August 13. Pick up will be at Fernandina Beach Church of Christ, 1005 South 14th St. (corner of 14th Street and Jasmine).


Amelia Island Film Festival inaugural next month

Fernandina Beach's Newest Festival opens with an exciting array of over 25 Screenings of 45 Independent, Classic and Foreign Films. The Amelia Island Film Festival takes place September 25-28 at four venues: The Fernandina Woman's Club, The Peck Center, Florida House Inn and The Palace Saloon.

Junior Miss Competition

ST JOHNS, COUNTY, FL - Registration is open for the 2009 St. Johns County Junior Miss Scholarship program, to be held Oct. 18 at the new Ponte Vedra High School Performing Arts Center.

All high school senior girls who live in St. Johns County are eligible to apply for the competition - an evening focused on academics, personality, talent and fitness. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and will be asked to compete in areas of interviewing, talent, scholastics, self-expression and fitness.

America's Junior Miss, celebrating its 51st anniversary this year, is the nation's oldest and largest scholarship program for high school senior girls. The program encourages self-esteem by emphasizing education, community service and fitness, as well as setting and reaching goals.

Rodeo

A professional rodeo will be held August 15 and 16 at the St. Johns County Fairgrounds.

Professional rodeo performers from across the Southeast will perform in a variety of rodeo events appropriate for all ages and will include bull fighters, rodeo clowns, team- and calf-roping, barrel racing, and bull riding.

Local youths will be invited to compete in youth barrel racing and roping competitions.

Gates open at 6 p.m. The St. Johns County Fairgrounds. is located at 5840 State Road 207 in Elkton, about seven miles west of the State Road 207 and I-95 intersection. Tickets are $12 for ages 12 and older and $7 for ages 6 to 11.
