Don’t Get Me Started
Hypocrisy of the LeftBy ANDY HEFTY GLEN SAINT MARY, FL - I don’t know about you, but I have had it with the self-righteous, hypocritical, sanctimony of prominent liberals on the "left" side of the political spectrum. I know I’ve written about it before, but more recent examples have gotten under my skin. It’s the standard do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do mentality. You’ve seen it, haven’t you? No? Well, let me give you a few reminders as you consider your voting habits approaching the primary in a couple weeks. (After all, you are voting, aren’t you?) Al Gore He brazenly tells everyone in Congress that he lives "a carbon-neutral life." He wants everyone to believe that buying into company stocks that supposedly researches and develops "alternative energy" (companies he created, mind you) will "neutralize" his Lear-jet lifestyle. He gallivants around the world in one of the most polluting private jets, eating up more fuel on one trip than a Hummer H2 does in a year, and expects us to think that his stock purchases will atone for his sins. Then he buys a boat, monstrous in size, and calls it Bio-Solar One (BS for short). But before the solar panels are installed, he plugs the boat into the local power grid. Uh, Al, isn’t that the slightest bit counter to what you preach? Or do you really believe in the hoax of global warming? Nancy Pelosi Just a short decade ago, then-Speaker Newt Gingrich was plastered to the wall because he landed a book deal about how he rose to the third highest political seat in the nation. Ethics charges flew almost every day in attempts to bring him down -- or at least defuse his effectiveness. Now, Nancy the Nanny shuts down Congress during an energy crisis so she can jet around and sell her book about how she rose to the same seat. Barack Obama Dude, quit telling us to inflate our tires. We know this already. Decades of politicians have preached this before you. They haven’t learned that this will not produce a single drop of fuel. And if you are so concerned about conservation, perhaps you should consider video conferencing your speeches. Your 757 burns quite a bit more fuel than my little Honda Fit. John Edwards Scores of politicians from both sides of the political aisle called for the head of Republican Larry Craig because he wanted to play footsie in a men’s restroom in an airport. While I find this creepy beyond compare, his "indiscretion" is no different than John Edwards possibly fathering a child to a woman that is not his wife. Rings of familiarity with Jesse Jackson a few short years ago, doesn’t it? But where is the hue and cry for Edwards’ nailing to the proverbial wall? Trent Lott You remember the downfall of Senator Lott, don’t you? He had some kind, but foolishly placed, words for Strom Thurmond at his 100th birthday party. Democrats go ballistic. Lott steps down. Enter Jesse Jackson. He threatens to castrate Obama and in the process uses the "dreaded N-word," and barely a peep from the alleged "civil rights" community. University of Florida Late headline: "Rock pioneer Bo Diddley gets posthumous degree from UF." Let me get this straight. The University thinks it’s important to give a degree to a dead man who sang for a living, but refused to give an honorary degree to the outgoing governor, Jeb Bush. When you consider the accomplishments for the state of Florida, Diddley doesn’t even come close. I won’t take away from the decision to give Diddley’s daughter the honor. But we have a governor who, in a short eight years, takes this state from worst to first in many tangible measurements, and the Board of Professors refuse -- because he’s an evil Republican, and the brother of the hated George W. Bush at that. Fund Raisers Let’s face it: politics requires money. A lot of money. With the Left, you have billionaire, socialist, Bush-hating George Soros and his MoveOn organizations. On the right, there are scores of much smaller groups. Enter a leftist watchdog institute, "Accountable America." This supposed "non-partisan group" has recently sent letters threatening Republican donors with intimidation that would normally be considered criminal in nature. According to blogger, columnist, and best-selling author Michelle Malkin: …[T]he oh-so-tolerant leftists have launched a campaign to send "WARNING" letters to potential GOP donors in a thuggish attempt to depress Republican fund-raising. ... You’ve got the nutroots brigade digging up the addresses of GOP donors to chill their political free speech while these same left-wing operatives and their followers label it "stalking" to publish public e-mail contact information for anti-war shills, or to Google Democrat donors, or to vet Democrat health care sob stories by actually reporting on their financial status. When we do it, it’s intimidation. When they do, it’s "accountability." I call it hypocrisy. Plain and simple, those who claim to be "for the little guy" are certainly trying their level best to undermine their paper-thin façade of political honesty. As I said, remember that when you vote -- or donate your hard-earned, heavily-taxed money.
