Fay tracking toward Florida

Fay tracking toward Florida

The sixth tropical storm of the season formed over the Dominican Republic Friday and is expected to cross Cuba and head into the Gulf of Mexico and Florida.

Forecasters say Tropical Storm Fay will probably strengthen after crossing Cuba and has a 30 percent chance of becoming a hurricane. Floridians and especially south Florida and the Keys remain in wait-and-see mode until forecasters can have a clearer picture of how the storm might affect the state.

The hurricane center's latest forecast track Fay approaching the Keys sometime Monday and heading up Florida's West Coast by Tuesday. However, the forecast changes daily and weather authorities say it all will depend on how the storm will react to moving over the land masses of the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Cuba.
