Obama picks Biden

Obama picks Biden

Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama has chosen Delaware senator Joe Biden as his choice for the vice presidential slot. The official announcement was made on Obama’s Web site early Saturday morning.

In part the announcement said, "Joe Biden brings extensive foreign policy experience, an impressive record of collaborating across party lines, and a direct approach to getting the job done. We have our team, but we also have our work cut out for us."

Then it goes on to ask for donations.

Biden, now 65, has run for president twice before. His strengths are foreign policy and defense; two areas where detractors say Obama is weak.

His rival for the nomination, Senator Hillary Clinton was not on the short list of running mates, however, her pull in the party remains evident. Her name will be place in nomination at the convention and a roll call vote will be permitted. Political pundits say this move is unusual and could expose lingering divisions in the Democratic party.
