Columbia meets Eastside Friday for "classic" play

Columbia High School football kicks off this week with Jamboree play against Gainesville’s Eastside High School at 7 p.m., Friday, at Citizens Field in Gainesville.

Coach Craig Howard said the Tigers will play their starters for the first half of the game and start substitutions in the second half.

Columbia won last year’s 2007 Kickoff Classic beating the Rams 14-0.

There are seven returning starters on this year’s defense; Brach Bessant, Marquis Davis, Chris Dickey, Timmy Jernigan Jr., Matt Jerry, Marquis Morgan Jr. and Todd Steward.

Matt Knowles, Tiger Powell, Jr., and Travis Tomlin return on offense.
