LPGA takes a stand
LPGA takes a stand
This week in Orlando, Florida, the LPGA announced that all players on the tour will be responsible for speaking English starting in 2009, with guidelines that state if you have been on the tour for two years, players could be facing a suspension if they can’t pass an oral evaluation
of English speaking skills - effective immediately for new players. (source: AP)
Finally someone has been reading my column. I don’t have any problem with where these players call home, but damn, it’s our tour…The U. S. of A’s tour. All of these sponsors are putting up major bucks - more than ever for ladies golf, I don’t think it’s too much to ask for the winner to be able to carry on an intelligent conversation with the CEO of the sponsoring company when he or she hands over the big check.
When asked: "Why now? - Athletes now have more responsibilities and we want to help their professional development," deputy commissioner Libba Galloway told The Associated Press.
I say great job! Finally someone over there at the LPGA has decided to grow a pair. Furthermore, if they don’t like it, let them go play somewhere else. I’m tired of all these gals from God knows where coming over here, winning the loot, smiling and walking off the green with out even a simple thank you.
