Jags take win over Bucs
The Jacksonville Jaguars took the win in Saturday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Jags came out strong jumping to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter and holding off the Bucs 23-17. Rookie cornerback Trae Williams made a game-saving tackle on the Jags’ 11-yard line.
Defense was on the money, forcing three turnovers in the first half and adding a fourth turnover in the final quarter.
"Defensively strong early; taking the short field and getting some points. I thought it was a nice job by our offense to go down the field and get seven points to start the third quarter," said Coach Jack Del Rio.
"The defense came out and started excellent and created turnovers. I think that is the type of football we definitely want to try to play this year," said running back Fred Taylor who carried seven times for 26 yards.
The offense didn’t fare as well, gaining only 75 total yards in the first half. The third quarter was better for quarterback David Garrard. He moved the offense down the field with passes to Dennis Northcutt and Matt Jones and then found Marcedes Lewis for the score.
Garrard completed 10 of 16 passes for 118 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. He was sacked twice.
Cleo Lemon replaced Garrard at quarterback in the third quarter. He completed nine of 12 passes for 96 yards.
"I was very happy with the way things worked tonight. It was a good night and we need to build on it," said Garrard.
