Audition for new, one-act comedy

Audition for new, one-act comedy

In association with Atlantic Beach Experimental Theatre (ABET), writer-director Steve Bailey is holding auditions for his new, one-act comedy, "The Fairly Big Broadcast of 1937."

The play is a parody of Orson Welles' famed "War of the Worlds" broadcast of Halloween, 1938. Interested actors may read the play on-line at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GreatExpectorations

(Go to this URL and press "Join This Group." Once you have joined [there is no "admission" charge], go to the menu at the left side of the screen and press "Files." Then look for the play's title and press on it; from there, you may read and/or download the play.)

The audition will be held on Sat., Sept. 27, from noon to 3:00 p.m. at the Pablo Creek Branch Library, 13295 Beach Blvd. (between Kernan and Hodges Blvds.).

We are looking for anyone from the age of 18 on up. Previous acting experience is helpful but not necessary. However, this is a one-act play in a single setting with no intermission or lighting changes, so a strong stage personality is a plus. Also, actors will be expected to provide multiple voice roles in the style of an old-time radio broadcast.

We are seeking to fill the following roles:

* Two radio announcers, male
* A newscaster, male
* Three commentators for a "Face the Nation"-type show, male
* Actors/actresses playing the voice roles of:
- a farmer, male
- a police chief, male
- a policeman, male
- two bystanders, female
- an old hag, female

Auditioners will be asked to fill out an informational sheet. A head-shot photo and resume would also be helpful.

There will be only six rehearsals and two performances, so it is essential that the actors be present for all sessions. Rehearsals will take place on all Saturday afternoons in October (Oct. 4, 11, 18, and 25) and on Oct. 28 at the Pablo Creek Branch Library, and a final rehearsal at ABET, 716 Ocean Blvd., Atlantic Beach, on Oct. 29.

For further info, you may call Steve Bailey at (904) 246-0312, or E-mail him at stevebailey61@gmail.com.
