Adkins takes win over Hart

Janet Adkins, of Fernandina Beach, has defeated Bobby Hart in his second try for the House District 12 seat being vacated by State Representative Aaron Bean who is forced to step down by term limits. The seat covers Nassau, Baker, Union and Bradford counties, as well as northwestern Clay and northeastern Duval counties.

Adkins, 42, has been on the Nassau County School Board since 1998 and also is the Republican state committeewoman for Nassau County and has been active in various GOP committees. She announces her candidacy early in the race.

In contrast, Hart, who makes his home in the Taylor community of Baker County, was a late-comer into the race. He teaches and coaches at West Nassau High School and previously taught in Baker and Union counties. He is a major in the Army Reserve and served two tours in the Middle East. He also ran for the district 12 seat in 2000, but lost to Bean.

Adkins received 8,304 votes for a total of 59 percent compared to Hart with 5,832 and 41 percent. She will face two write-in candidates in November.
