MACCLENNY, FL - Baker County School Board Superintendent candidate Sherrie Raulerson kicked off her campaign with a chicken and rice dinner. Inside the Baker County Fairgrounds main hall, upwards of 300-500 gathered for dinner and entertainment. Teachers and administrators from all six county schools and the school board were on hand to help serve the food.

The pot-luck dinner fare included barbequed chicken, lima beans, green beans, cole slaw, potato salad, and sliced bread for the main course. Like the spread of a summer time church picnic, desserts covered over 50 feet of table tops with every kind of homemade cakes, pies, cobblers, and cookies available.

After dinner and dessert, local entertainers took the stage. Past students of Mrs. Raulerson, Savanna Jones on the guitar and Maci McDuffie on vocals entertained those finishing their supper.

After a few anecdotal childhood stories from her husband, Eric, Raulerson took the stage. After thanking all of her supporters and those involved in the evening’s preparations, Raulerson outlined her qualifications for the job noting,  " I am proud to be an elementary school teacher. Elementary education is the foundation - middle school and high school teacher’s can’t do their job if elementary teachers haven’t laid the foundation."

She recognized the teacher’s union representative in the audience and pledged to work together with the union just as her predecessor has. On the heels of the National Democratic Convention, Raulerson assured the audience that "I am a conservative, I believe in God, I am not a liberal, and I believe it’s about doing the right thing, not about Republican or Democrat. When you are doing what’s right for the children - you can’t go wrong."

Raulerson promised to treat people with respect and promised to run a clean campaign - "no stinky stuff." She reminded her supporters of the Tortoise and the Hare. "We cannot get complacent, I’m gonna run hard like he’s on my heels and I’m not gonna let him catch me."

Every kind of homemade cakes, pies, cobblers, and cookies were available.
There was special entertainment for the kids too.
