Player Spotlight - Baker County's B.J. Rowe

By DAVID THEUS

Player Spotlight - Baker County's B.J. Rowe

This week’s Player Spotlight focuses on #4 B.J. Rowe, senior Defensive End for the Baker County Wildcats. I had a chance to sit down with B.J. during this week’s pre game ritual of quiet time. That’s time set aside so the players can concentrate and prepare for the task at hand. This week that task was the Union County Tigers.

B.J. Rowe
B.J. is a third year letterman in football. At 6 foot 1 inches tall and 210 pounds, B.J. looks and plays bigger than he seems. Last week in the West Nassau season kick off he was lined up against West Nassau’s prize bull at 6 foot 9 inches and 295 pounds of pure brawn. B.J. stayed low and maintained his ground for several assisted and non assisted tackles of his own. He said: "that dude was strong!"

I asked B.J. what if anything was different about this year’s team versus his 10 and two district winning team last year. He was quick to say that this year’s team is even closer and friendlier than last years. As for accomplishments this year, it’s all about STATE. The team’s desire is to perform at their highest level each week and hope they come out on top.

Rowe is a high achiever in the classroom too. B.J. maintains a 3.2 GPA and is looking forward to buckling down this year in his favorite class, Science, with Mr. Inman. Rowe, considers his best attribute to be his personality and his easy-going sense of humor. By the way ladies, it’s hard to believe, but he’s unattached too. Spaghetti with meat sauce is his number one entrée and for dessert, there is nothing better than Blueberry Delight! I think he salivated when he answered that question.

In closing I asked was there a favorite motto or quote from a famous person he strives to live by, he said his Dad, Butch Rowe, always gives him good advice and keeps him grounded. His quote:

"If you’re gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough."  Butch Rowe
