Jaguars trim roster to 53

Jaguars trim roster to 53

The Jacksonville Jaguars released 19 players and placed two players on the Physically Unable to Perform list in DB Chad Nkang and DL Jeremy Mincey. DT Jonathan Lewis was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury suffered in the preseason finale at Washington. Included in the cuts were six veterans: QB Todd Bouman, RB Ciatrick Fason, LB Tony Gilbert, DT Jesse Mahelona, DE Kenny Pettway and DE Bo Schobel.

Also waived was fifth-round draft pick DB Trae Williams and 12 other first-year players: TE Chris Brown, DE Mkristo Bruce, OT Andrew Carnahan, TE Charles Davis, CB Isaiah Gardner, CB Michael Grant, WR Ryan Hoag, G/OT Pete McMahon, C/G Drew Miller, CB Rashod Moulton, LB Lamar Myles and WR D’Juan Woods.

In all, four of this year’s five draft choices are on the opening day roster. One undrafted rookie made the opening day roster in CB Brian Witherspoon.

The Jaguars’ roster now stands at 53 players. Of the 53 players, 30 were drafted by Jacksonville including 24 from 2003 through 2008.

On Sunday, the Jaguars signed seven players to their practice squad. All seven had been with the team throughout the preseason and had been waived in final cuts on Saturday.

The Jaguars’ practice squad players are:

Chris Brown, TE, Tennessee
Mkristo Bruce, DE, Washington State
Andrew Carnahan, OT, Arizona State
Charles Davis, TE, Purdue
Isaiah Gardner, DB, Maryland
Drew Miller, C/G, Florida
Rashod Moulton, DB, Fort Valley State

NFL teams are limited to eight players on their practice squad, so the Jaguars can add one more player.
