Fears of storm impact lead to high school game rescheduling
Worried about the potential impact from Tropical Storm Hanna, high schools around North Florida are moving up scheduled varsity football games. With forecasters predicting heavy rains
and gusty winds impacting the area just as the Friday night games are planned to kickoff, most school officials made the decision to adjust their schedules.
The shift means that area varsity squads will play a day early, on Thursday night. The changes mean that coaches have to change their game week routines and will have less time as they prep for this weeks start of the Florida High School regular season.
Schools officials had the choice of moving the games up a day or to push them back to Saturday. The second option was less appealing because of the unknown variable of how great Hanna’s impact will be on area communities and football fields.
If fields were left too drenched, schools could wind up having to try and schedule a make-up game or risk dropping the missed game entirely. Most school officials felt playing a day early is better than the chance of a cancellation.
A few area schools were waiting for updated forecasts before making the decision to shift their games.
