Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida reports 19th year of positive performance

JACKSONVILLE, FL - During Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida's (BCBSF) annual policyholders' meeting Tuesday, Chris Doerr, executive vice president, chief administrative officer and chief financial officer, reported that 2007 marked the company's nineteenth consecutive year of positive performance and increased membership.

Doerr said the company increased enrollment in its health business by more than 139,000 new members, posted positive financial gains and enhanced policyholders' equity.

"Today one in five Floridians is a Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida member," said Doerr. "We work each day to provide access to quality, affordable health care through innovative and cost effective products, superior customer service, and increasing satisfaction among members, employers, physicians and providers."

BCBSF continues its focus on actively listening to members' needs and concerns. This year the company broadened that interactive approach by launching the "Power of the Human Voice" campaign, allowing Floridians to speak their minds about health care. "The goal of the campaign is to hear what our friends and neighbors have to say," Doerr added.

Other activity announced today included the reelection of Leerie T. Jenkins, Jr., Robert I. Lufrano, M.D., and John B. Ramil to three-year terms as directors, and the retirement of board member DuBose Ausley after 26 years of dedicated service.
