Football preps for home opener against Campbell Football preps for home opener against CampbellThe JU football team opens Pioneer Football League play this Saturday as they host Campbell for the first time. The Dolphins (1-1) were picked sixth in the preseason PFL poll, but are looking to come out firing at home. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m., with the game being broadcast on 1010XL with video streaming available through ASun.TV. "We are excited to be at home and play in front of our fans for the first time this season," said JU head coach Kerwin Bell. "We have played two tough games on the road and it’s going to be nice to finally get a game at home. " The excitement of playing at home is also heightened with the Dolphins play thus far. While splitting the first two games, there have been many bright spots to come out of those contests. One of those is the emergence of freshman quarterback Josh McGregor. The Belle Glade, Fla. native has thrown for more than 300 yards in three halves of football this season, leading the team to three straight scoring drives in a win over Savannah State. Another highlight has been the steady play by the JU defense. When looking inside the numbers, the Dolphins have allowed less than 200 yards in the air in two games while picking off two passes. "The defense has been ready to go each week and we’re feeding off their success," Bell said. "We’ve got to become more consistent in moving the ball on offense to give the defense a rest while not putting them in bad position on the field." |
