Georgia wins over Chippewas Georgia wins over ChippewasGeorgia Bulldogs Head Coach Mark Richt is unbeaten at home and in Saturday’s game with the Central Michigan University Chippewas his team kept that streak alive. The Dawgs were looking to send message after their team fell from the number one preseason ranking spot despite a solid win last week. Coach Richt’s team lit up the scoreboard with an overwhelming offensive onslaught in their last tune-up game before start of their SEC slate of games. The team also set a new record for the longest drive in team history with a 99 yard drive after a Chippewas punt buried them at the one yard line. Led by standout performances from quarterback Matthew Stafford and running back Knowshon Moreno, the Bulldogs passed for 289 yards and rushed for 263 on the way to a 56-17 victory. Stafford made good decisions throughout the game and finished with 18 of 28 pass completions for 213 yards, including a pair of touchdown passes to his favorite receiver Mohamed Massaquoi. The Dogs offensive line won the battle of the trenches and gave their quarterback all day to throw the ball with good blocking. The offensive line was led by Georgia’s big mobile Vince Vance. Georgia sophomore Knowshon Moreno stole the show with three rushing touchdowns. His athletic abilities were on full display when he electrified the 90,000 plus fans in attendance, with a high hurdle jump over a would be Chippewa tackler, late in the third quarter. Moreno rushed for 168 yards in the game. Freshman sensation AJ Green also showed his promise for future greatness with sure handed catches to keep the Bulldogs drives moving. Georgia’s defense had their own highlight moments in the lopsided victory. After Georgia's Prince Miller tipped the ball up in the air, defensive end Demarcus Dobbs grabbed the ball and lumbered down the field for a 78 yard score. The 282 pound sophomore tumbled into the end zone with his first touchdown as a Bulldog. Dobbs along with his defensive teammates led by Asher Allen, harassed CMU QB Chris Lefevour who tried to use the spread offense to move the ball against Georgia’s fierce defenders. Georgia jumped out to a 28-0 lead over the Chippewas before allowing them to get on the board just before halftime. CMU drove down the field with a solid effort to score touchdown on their first drive of the second half and make the score 28-14. The Dogs slammed the on Chippewas after that and crushed any hopes of a comeback with two scoring plays in the third quarter. Georgia’s defenders allowed CMU to drive into the red zone before forcing them to settle for a field goal after stiffening inside the twenty yard line. The Bulldogs record stands at 2 and 0 as the prepare for their first real test of the season. They will travel to Columbia, South Carolina for the first SEC conference game against the Gamecock’s. |
