OBITUARIES
Cody Karl Davis September 11, 2008 - Cody Karl Davis, 15, passed away on Monday September 8, 2008. He was a native and life long resident of Jacksonville. He attended First Coast High School, was a member of Calvary Temple Church of God and was also a member of the Indian Creek Hunting Club. He loved dirt bike riding, fishing and hunting. Survivors include his father & mother, Karl & Keri Davis; brother, Troy Michael Davis; maternal grandmother, Nam Anderson; grandparents Don & Diane Wallace; great grandparents, HC & Kay Bracewell and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday September 13 at 11 AM at First Coast Christian Center, 2724 New Berlin Road with the Rev. Bob Mullaly officiating. Internment will follow in Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening September 12 from 6 PM until 8 PM at the funeral home. Jane Rash GentrySeptember 11, 2008 - Mrs. Jane Rash Gentry, whose clever needlepoint pieces and personalized Christmas stockings are treasured gifts to family and close friends, passed away at her home on September 10, 2008, after a long battle with cancer. She was 69 and under hospice care.
On September 8, 1962, she married Ensign Donald Gunn Gentry, USN, of Miami, Florida, and embarked on a long adventure as a Navy wife, active volunteer, and mother of two children. She set up households in Florida, Texas, California, Hawaii, Washington State, the Philippines, Jacksonville, Bermuda, and several times in Washington, DC. Before settling in Fernandina Beach in 2005, she spent 20 years with her family in Annandale, VA. An enthusiastic sailor and cruiser, Mrs. Gentry and her husband enjoyed many summers exploring the Chesapeake Bay in their sailboat while welcoming family and friends to join them. On her many sailing cruises to the Caribbean and Bahamas, Jane loved to float above tropical coral reefs with mask and snorkel observing the fish and coral. She especially enjoyed snorkeling over the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and in the pristine waters of the Exumas in the Bahamas during the past few years. Jane was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church and worked on the needlepoint project completing a new seat for the Bishop's Chair. She also volunteered as a Take Stock in Children mentor to a Nassau County high school student. Mrs. Gentry is survived by her husband of 46 years, Donald Gentry of Yulee, FL, and two children, Donald Gunn Gentry, Jr (Leigh) of Jacksonville and Anne Gentry Morinelli (Dominic) of Plantation FL; her three granddaughters, Lauren Elizabeth Gentry, Emily Anne Morinelli, and Caroline Rose Morinelli; a sister, JoAnn "Jody" Mackle (Douglas) of Fernandina and brother, Dr. James R. Rash, III, MD (Diana) of Carrollton GA; three nieces, Phoebe Mackle Kromann (Johnny) of Fernandina, Amy Rash Smith (Marshall) of New York City, Anna Simmons Rash of Carrollton, GA; and two nephews, Douglas Mackle, Jr (Camaria) of Gainesville, FL and James Rash IV of Tell City, IN. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 15, at St. Peters Episcopal Church, Fernandina Beach, FL, with the Rev. Kimberly Still officiating. A native of Beaver, PA, he had been a lifelong resident of the Pittsburgh area before moving to Fernandina Beach in 1999. Mr. Ross was a Painter with the local International Association of Painters Trade Union in Jacksonville. Most recently, he had worked on an expansion phase for JEA on Hecksher Drive and other local jobs. His family recalls his great sense of humor, his love of hunting, fishing, the Pittsburgh Steelers and his love for each of them. He leaves behind, his parents, James and Kathleen Ross, Yulee, FL, a brother, Kevin Patrick Ross, Yulee, FL and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother Lora Curry and two nieces: Lora Kay Rolph and Brandy Susanne Curry. She is survived by her son: Tyrone Turner; three granddaughters Sara (Jimmy) Setzer, April (Joey) Ott and Elizabeth Turner of Macclenny, FL; one grandson: Dustin Turner; two great grandchildren: Caleb & Cody; two sisters Virginia (Steve) Rolph of Macclenny, FL, Susie (Terry) Steele of Crestview, FL; one brother: T.L. (Sue)Curry of Interlachen, FL; two step-sisters: Wavene Norris of Panama City, FL, Ellen Hall of Germany; two step-brothers: Frankie (Hattie)Curry of Ponce De Leon, F:L and John Curry of Kansas.
