Chesser Island Landfill is on fire
BREAKING NEWSChesser Island Landfill is on fireMultiple units from the Charlton County fire department have been dispatched to the Chesser Island Regional Landfill located off of Georgia Highway 121. Units from Folkston and St. George are responding to suppress and contain a fire of unknown origin. Initial reports from the Georgia Division of Forestry indicated heavy smoke is showing from their observation point. In addition to the fire units, rescue personnel have been dispatched to the scene to monitor firefighters due to concerns about what could be burning and extreme heat. The Chesser Island landfill, is a regional landfill utilized by both north Florida and south Georgia counties and is directly adjacent to the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. |
