POSTED 09/19/08 - The 24th-ranked Florida State football team put the finishing touches on its game plan for 18th-ranked Wake Forest Thursday afternoon. FSU practiced for 15 periods in helmets and shorts and worked the entire time versus scout teams. With the final pieces of the game plan in place, Florida State’s players and coaches will now have to bide their time until kick-off Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. (ESPN2). More ... Saturday’s Southeastern Conference college football game between the Georgia and the South Carolina Gamecocks was another in the series of low scoring defensive showdowns. While the number two ranked Bulldogs dominated the time of possession, the defensive unit from South Carolina contained their opponents potent offense limiting them to just two field goals in the first half and a lone touchdown in the later half of the game. More ... The JU football team opened Pioneer Football League play in style, breaking records left and right en route to a 52-0 win over Campbell at D.B. Milne Field on Saturday. The Dolphins (2-1) pulled off their first shutout since a 30-0 win over Austin Peay in 2003 and just the second in school history. More ... The Southeastern Conference coaches picked the University of Florida’s women’s cross country team to finish second in the league and the men to finish fourth, according to the poll released on Wednesday. The Gators are coming off the greatest one-year turn-around in program history! Last season, new head coach Amanda Butler led the Gators back to post-season play. Now, Coach Butler returns for her second season and the Gators are hungry for more. More ... The Florida State men's and women's cross country teams participated Saturday, September 13 in the annual "Across The State Relay" in an effort to not only put in a day of training and team-building, but also to raise money for the United Way of the Big Bend in the process.
