TALLAHASSEE - While it wasn't a second shutout to start the season, sophomore quarterback Christian Ponder was once again perfect Saturday leading the Seminoles to a convincing 46-7 victory against visiting University of Tennessee Chattanooga.
The Seminoles took all three of their first quarter possessions down the field for touchdowns with Ponder connecting with junior college transfer Corey Surrency for two of the scores.
Surrency, who wasn't even listed in the depth chart to start the season snagged his first touchdown, a 44-yard pass from Ponder on the first series of the game and finished the quarter hauling in a 39-yard touchdown pass.
Surrency had three receptions, two of the scores for 87 yards to lead FSU receivers.
Ponder finished the game completing 13 of 22 pass attempts with no interceptions and three touchdowns before allowing fellow sophomore D'Vontrey Richardson take cleanup duty late in the game. Richardson added a touchdown going 9-14 for 117 yards. Neither quarterback threw an interception for the game.
Despite dominating the game gaining nearly 500 yards offensively, the Seminoles did show some weakness as they begin the real part of their schedule next week.
Both Florida State quarterbacks were sacked twice.
"We didn't play as well as we did last week, we won the game, but the younger kids didn't execute as well as they did last week," said Coach Bobby Bowden.
The Seminoles enter their ACC schedule next week at home against Wake Forest.
Former Jacksonville Bolles quarterback Riley Skinner comes to Tallahassee two years removed from winning the ACC championship. And the Noles hope to avenge last year's 24-21 loss at Winston Salem, N.C.
After holding the lead for most of the game, Skinner lead the Demon Deacons on a fourth quarter charge last year to take the lead and the victory.
Wake Forest also enters next week's game 2-0.
"I'm a little scared to tell you the truth, these past two teams aren't even division 1 teams, Wake Forest has got some pretty big kids and bigger program, I'm a little scared as to how we will perform," said Bowden.
The win was Coach Bobby Bowden's 375th career victory keeping him tied with Penn State's Joe Paterno.
