FEMA Center opens in Nassau County

POSTED 09-16/08 - A Federal Emergency Management Agency disaster recovery center opened Monday for property owners hit by Tropical Storm Fay. The recovery center is located at the Nassau County Tax Collector's Office on Mickler Street in Callahan. Hours will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week to allow property owners to register for assistance.

Nassau and Baker, along with Duval County now qualify for federal assistance with individual property damages as well as public assistance for businesses and governments damaged by the storm.

FEMA officials say 64 Nassau residents, 18 in Baker County and 1600 in Duval have already registered for aid.

Affected residents and business owners may apply by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362) from 7 a.m. to midnight seven days a week. Online registration is available at www.FEMA.gov.
