Woman hits herself with own vehicle

A Sanderson woman ended up running herself over with her own mini van after an angry tirade against a family member and police.

Baker County deputies were called to a home on Mallie Davis Road in Sanderson after a domestic dispute. Clay Davis, 38, was arrested for making threats against a female victim.

As Davis was placed into handcuffs, his mother, 63-year-old Mary Bennett Davis, became angry with Deputy Bill Starling stating, "If you take him to jail, you are going to have to take me too."

At that time Ms. Davis ran to her vehicle shouting she was going to kill the victim and threatening officers. She put the vehicle and accelerated rapidly into reverse narrowly missing Deputy Starling standing at the open van door.

She was still yelling about going to kill the person as the van slammed into a riding lawn mower. The impact caused Davis to turn the wheel sharply and she was thrown from the still moving vehicle.

The van rolled over Davis’ body and continued in reverse ramming a police car. Davis was flown to Shands Jacksonville for treatment. Charges are pending.
