Don’t Get Me Started
Answering Tonyaa -- AGAIN
JACKSONVILLE, FL -- I just can’t help it. I have to. Columnist Tonyaa Weathersbee has once again proven that she wouldn’t know the truth if it walked up to her and bit her in the nose. And this time, I have had it up to my continually receding hairline with her accusations of covert racism.
Enough already!
In her most recent diatribe, she states that GOP officials are (say it with me) r-r-r-r-racist because they describe Democrat presidential candidate Barack Hussein Obama as being "uppity." Well, excuse me. Since when did a single adjective that can be applied to just about anyone suddenly equate with bigotry? (Understand that racism is defined as believing that one particular group of people is genetically superior to another. Racism doesn’t officially fit. It just sounds better when you are lashing accusations.)
So let me clarify something for you. I do not call Obama "uppity." I consider him to be an elitist, pompous, arrogant, self-centered snob. You read that correctly. Every time he appears on stage or in meetings, he has his nose so high in the air that you could attach a New York City windmill to it. Think for just a moment how his good-for-thee-but-not-for-me mentality has confirmed his elitist ways.
When talking of energy issues, he refuses to consider that we need to begin producing more of our own energy resources on our own soil. Instead he tells us to inflate our tires and purchase expensive (and truly non-environmentally-friendly) hybrid cars. Then he climbs into his Chrysler 300 or a campaign-provided gas-guzzling SUV and speeds away. And this was all before he was afforded a secret service detail.
When campaigning in Philadelphia, he made the politically fatal mistake of bypassing the world-famous Geno’s cheese-steak stand. Instead, he sauntered over to a market to sample some very expensive ($100/pound) Spanish ham and then complained about the price of arugula. Some may ask, "What in the world is arugula?"
He goes to Germany to supposedly show his support for the troops. In the process, he steps in it big-time. Obama was told that he was not to turn his hospital visit into a campaign stop or a photo-op. Instead, he was to allow a small contingent of assistants and family members to follow him. No press. No campaigners. Just him and the troops. Rather than abide by military policy when visiting a military hospital, he cancelled the visit. But he certainly didn’t cancel his rock-star, post-concert, citizen-of-the-world, I-hate-America speech.
He has his speech from the Democrat convention in a football stadium instead of the convention hall. Then he wonders why his post-convention "bounce" never really took place. Gee, do you think it might have been that he neglected to put any specific information in his speech, even though he said he would? Or could it be that Obama’s post-convention bounce was overshadowed by the nomination of Sarah Palin? Perhaps it’s the possibility that people have grown weary of the media-induced hype that is known as Senator HopeChange?
Of course, some of his campaign staff became rather upset when they couldn’t have a balloon drop from an outdoor stadium. The price you pay for a post-concert speech in the moonlight.
Obama’s critics have said many things about him that can be argued in the arena of ideals. But I have heard no one -- repeat, no one -- in conservative media say anything that would be considered "racist" about him. Do I believe he has socialistic tendencies? Yes. Do I call into question his associations with shady characters, such as unrepentant domestic terrorists, radical anti-American ministers, and criminal embezzlers? Certainly! Is it fair criticism to call Senator Obama an elitist? You better believe it.
Obama, like John Kerry, selected a particular qualification (being a community organizer in this case) as the single most reason for electing him to the Oval Office. Trying to figure out what that really is -- and expecting an answer for whether that is really a sound enough reason to vote for him -- sounds like fair game to me.
But if Barack Obama is going to claim racism every time he is criticized, can we really expect him to handle the scrutiny of four years in the White House?
And his surrogates need to pick a better battle. Screaming racism every time someone says anything critical reeks of crying wolf. It’s losing its strength, as well as its credibility. And contrary to your beliefs, Ms. Weathersbee, there is not a Klan member hiding around every corner. So stop acting like it.
