Player Spotlight - West Nassau’s Jamaal
Jamaal Jones
Jones

Starting at Corner Back and sometimes filling in at Running Back for the West Nassau Warriors, Jamaal Jones loves to make his friends and fellow team mates laugh and smile. At five feet ten inches tall and 170 pounds, Jamaal can be very elusive on the field with his sub 4.5 speed in the forty-yard dash. His favorite trash talk is a first for me, but then again Jamaal is the first corner I have had the pleasure to interview. Jones is quick to remind his receiver opponents that "75 percent of the world is covered by water, and the other 25 percent is covered by me."

Jones said of the game: " I love to practice, I love being with my friends, and most of all, I love the lights of Friday nights." Jones credits two of his childhood friends and team mates for being there to push each other to do better each day. Horace Wilson and Cory Prescott have been life long friends and have always been there to challenge each another. Jones’ credits his brother Ahmad and cousin Tony as family members inspirational in his playing football. They introduced him to football by playing a sort of Oklahoma drill on their family’s trampoline when they were kids.

Jamaal is also a wizard in the classroom too. His favorite subject is Chemistry and currently he is maintaining a 3.5 GPA looking forward to possibly attending UCF in Orlando and majoring in Chemistry. Jamaal said he would consider possibly trying to walk on at UCF next fall, but if the demands of his class work are too much, his schooling is his number one priority. That’s good, mature thinking.

Jamaal’s favorite dinner time delight is steak and his favorite dessert is a honey bun. I asked the fresh ones from the bakery or the ones wrapped in cellophane? "The one’s from the convenient store for sure, those are the best." Jones said. I have to say there was a little hesitation in his voice when we spoke of his last season playing organized football in high school. He loves it and will surely miss it when it’s over.
