Handy guide gives pointers leading to a Safer Florida

TALLAHASSEE - Whether you live in the Sunshine State or are visiting, the Florida Trip Tips guide will help you navigate Florida’s traffic laws. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is circulating the handy guide to locations throughout the state.

Out-of-state visitors and new drivers are sometimes unaware of all the road rules, and occasionally the rules change. With Florida Trip Tips, drivers will find helpful information on traffic laws and tips for safe travel. Highlights include: new requirements for motorcycles; Florida’s Move Over Law; and guidelines on seatbelts, child restraints and what to do in a minor car accident.

"With more than 18 million residents and 80 million visitors in Florida, we have a lot of people to protect and educate," said DHSMV Executive Director Electra Bustle. "Florida Trip Tips is a great resource for everyone driving Florida highways. I encourage everyone to pick up a copy and keep it in your vehicle."

Florida Trip Tips will be available at welcome centers, driver license offices, Florida Highway Patrol stations, turnpike plazas and rest areas across the state, as well as online at http://www.flhsmv.gov/SafetyTips/. "Florida Trip Tips is packed with helpful tips and information to keep you safe on our highways and roads. Getting a copy will help make a trip to our state or a move to Florida as smooth as possible. Motorists can get quick facts about our great state as well as our laws as they relate to driving and much more," said Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Stephanie Kopelousos. "A well planned trip is a safer and more enjoyable one." Florida Trip Tips was developed by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles with grant funding provided by the Florida Department of Transportation. It is an example of the great work that can be accomplished when state agencies partner to serve Floridians and visitors.

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is charged with the mission of providing highway safety and security through excellence in service, education and enforcement. The department leads the way to a Safer Florida by way of three major components: driver licenses, vehicle tags and titles and the Florida Highway Patrol.
