Women’s cross country takes fourth at Mountain Dew Invitational

Junior Elsabeth Goshu ran the 10th fastest time in school history, while three other Dolphin runners put up personal bests as the JU women’s cross country team continued its hot start with a fourth place finish at the Mountain Dew Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. on Saturday morning.

The Dolphins, who ranks No. 9 in the south region USTFCCCA polls, finished ahead of in-state rivals UCF(5th), Miami (6th) and UNF (7th).

"We had a solid effort today," said JU head coach Ron Grigg. "Alyssa, Susanne and Kelli all ran life-time bests today, but there is a lot more training left to do. Elsa will be a contender for the front pack at the conference championship and that is something we have been missing. This was a nice start."

Goshu was JU’s top finisher after running a time of 18:33.60 to finish 12th. Junior Alyssa Deal ran a personal-best time of 18:52.77 to take 17th, while sophomore Susanne Klungtveit also had a personal-best mark with a 19:09.04 (23rd).

Sophomore Kelli Midden tallied a life-time best of 19:38.04 (37th) and junior Alison Ritter finished behind Midden with a time of 19:41.47. Junior Tiffanie Saxton rounded out the Dolphin runners with a 20:44.57.

The Dolphins will look to continue their momentum on Saturday, Sept. 27, when they travel to Macon, Ga. for the Mercer Invitational.
