New check stations opened for area deer hunters
     POSTED 09/26/2008 - The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) announces 10 auxiliary check stations for hunters to use to check the deer they harvest during the upcoming hunting seasons on Ocala, Fort McCoy and Gores Landing Unit Ocklawaha River wildlife management areas.

FWC asks for help in removing tempting bear treats
     POSTED 09/24/2008 - The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is asking for assistance in Citrus County. According to FWC biologists, during the past three weeks, there have been 16 calls regarding a bear near the Citrus Springs area and the Pine Ridge subdivision.

FWC proposes changes in Gulf fishing rules
     The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has proposed rule amendments for gag grouper in Gulf of Mexico state waters to be consistent with anticipated regulations in Gulf federal waters. In addition, the FWC is proposing to allow Florida recreational anglers to harvest more red grouper in Gulf state waters.

Babcock Ranch to host first public hog hunts
     Babcock Ranch Preserve Public Small Game Hunting Area in Charlotte County will host six separate public hog hunts for the first time since being acquired by the State of Florida. A total of 30 special opportunity permits will be available for each of the six hunts. The cost of a special opportunity permit for the three-day hunt is $150. Hunters must also possess a valid Florida hunting license.

     New hunters looking for help and those with experience wanting to sharpen their skills are invited to attend the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) Youth Hunting Field Day on Saturday, October 4 at Tall Timbers Research Station, north of Tallahassee.
