POSTED 09/26/2008 - The Keystone JVcame to Union County on Thursday night with one big advantage -- about twice as many players. The Union County team might have been short on players, but the guys gave it all they had 'til the very last seconds of the game. The Tigers' run game allowed them to maintain possession and gain several consecutive first downs on multiple

drives, but when they tried to go for gold, they could never connect on the long pass. Indian defenders were right there every time.

The only time it looked as though the Tigers would score, the 79 yard punt return by #28, Josh Tyson was called back due to a UC penalty.

Both teams played great defense. Only one score was allowed the entire game, and that was a TD by Indian's #8, Evan Harvey.

With 33 seconds left in the game, the Tigers had one more shot. QB Austin Harden dropped back and threw a "Hail Mary" which wound up being intercepted by Indians player #5, Chase Julius.

Indians' Coach Herv Stricklin praised his team when he said, "their heart, determination, and perseverance helped them win the game." He was followed by Head Coach Lantz Lowery who said, "I think we had the tougher men on the field, because we have the tougher athletes."

When asked about injuries during the game, Coach Lowery replied, "the Union County guys hit hard. They hit harder than we do at practice. We were lucky and able to bounce back. We lost

one kid who wasn't able to return to the field and play the rest of the game, but everyone else was able to return and play." He added, "We have a lot of 9th graders on the team, it's a young team. We don't have enough at any one position so that we can just line up and go. We've got to be able to play a bunch of people at a bunch of different positions to try and keep bodies fresh. That's the only way we're gonna win ball games." His final thought on the game was, "It was a lot of fun".

Next week the Tigers face PK Yonge in Gainesville, and Yulee goes to Keystone Heights for their match-up with the Indians.
