Player Spotlight - Bradford County’s John Tyson

By DAVID THEUS

Player Spotlight - Bradford County’s
John Tyson
John Tyson

John Tyson #73 plays both offensive tackle and defensive tackle for the Bradford Tornados. At 5 foot 9 inches and 250 pounds he brings a new meaning to word’s "center of gravity." If by chance you happen to find yourself in the gap on the one play that John is asked to pull for his team, hang on - it’s going to be one ride you won’t forget. With his 290-pound bench and whopping 475 pound squat, can you say locomotive?

Tyson loves the fact that on offense, he has a sense of knowing where and how the play will eventually end up. As for his play on defense, he thrives on the instinctual freestyle nature of the position. His one player he says he looks up to is none other than Warren Sapp, and to meet this guy, it’s easy to see John and Warren could be brothers or at least cousins. His build, his infectious smile and his desire to be laughing or the causing some laughter.

John transfers his strong work ethic to the classroom too. Maintaining 3.4 GPA with a course load full of Honors classes throughout his entire high school career, John favors the subject of Math over all of the rest. This semester he is in enrolled in Pre-Calculus.

John would eventually like to go to school somewhere here in Florida. As for playing after this level, he would love to, especially if it could aid him in furthering his education.

His favorite eats are a first, Tomatoes and Rice served with Sausage, sounds a little south Louisiana to me! As for dessert, he enjoys a hearty serving of strawberry cheesecake. I asked John about how he would like to be remembered by his team mates and fellow class men the days after Bradford High School. His simple answer speaks volumes, "as a hard worker both on and off the field."
