Del Rio, Taylor Nominated for NFL Weekly Honors

POSTED 09/24/2008 - Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio and running back Fred Taylor have been nominated for NFL weekly honors for their performances in Sunday’s win at Indianapolis. Del Rio is one of three finalist for the Motorola NFL Coach of the Week and Taylor is one of three finalist for the FedEx Ground Player of the Week.

Fan voting began Tuesday at 9 a.m. and continues through Friday at 11 a.m. at NFL.com. The winners will be announced Friday evening on NFL.com. This is Del Rio’s and Taylor’s first nomination this year.

Del Rio led the Jaguars in a road victory over the AFC South rival Indianapolis Colts with a 23-21 win at Indianapolis. The Jaguars rushed for a season-high 236 yards on 48 carries, the second-most rushes in team history. Running backs Taylor (26-121) and Maurice Jones-Drew (19-107) both rushed for 100 yards, the second time in team history two running backs have rushed for 100-plus yards in a game and also the second time for the duo. The Jaguars controlled the ball for 41:35 and had an 18-play drive in the fourth quarter that lasted a team-record 12:18. Taylor finished with a season-high 121 yards on 26 carries in the Jaguars’ victory over the Indianapolis Colts. Taylor broke at least four tackles on a 34-yard run in the third quarter to set up a Jaguars touchdown. Taylor contributed to Jacksonville’s total 236 rushing yards over the 41:35 their offense controlled the ball.
