Survivor Gabon contestant from Jacksonville Beach

POSTED 09/25/2008 - A 28 year old Florida native now living in Jacksonville Beach is one of the 18 contestants on this season’s Survivor Gabon.

Marcus Lehman is originally from Gainesville, but left the state to go to Harvard and then on to Emory Medical School. He came back to this area for a residency at the Mayo Clinic.

The newest survivor takes place in Gabon, a west-central African country on the equator that borders Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea and the Republic of the Congo. It is home to vast tracts of swamp and impenetrable jungle, where forest elephants and lowland gorillas and leopards roam in the night.

"It was clear to us, from the moment we set foot there, that this was an untapped, undiscovered part of the world,'' says Jeff Probst, the host of the show. "They've had virtually no tourism, and so nobody's been there.''

He said the cast and crew of Survivor Gabon quickly learned this wasn't going to be a Club Med vacation. The real Garden of Eden has snakes - real snakes. And there are things - big things - that go bump in the night.

Survivor Gabon: Earth's Last Eden was filmed in High-Definition - a Survivor first - so the jungle is there for all to see, right down to the last fig wasp and carnivorous plant.

Survivor Gabon: Earth's Last Eden premieres tonight, Thursday, September 25 on CBS at 8 p.m.
