Fire Safety urged as National Fire Prevention Week approaches
     POSTED 10/02/2008 - Florida Agriculture and Consumer Services Commissioner Charles H. Bronson reminded Florida residents today that October 5-11 is National Fire Prevention Week - a week that is set aside each year to commemorate the tragic Great Chicago and Peshtigo fires of 1871, and to stress the importance of fire safety.

SRWMD closes on Otter Springs property

     POSTED 10/01/2008 - The famous (and infamous) DJ who put Jacksonville and the now-defunct WAPE on the map so to speak, is back in Jacksonville. Doug "The Greaseman" Tracht was one of the most well-know radio personality’s of the north Florida area from 1975-1982.

Residents discuss Thomas Creek problems
     More than 30 residents attended a special meeting held Wednesday by Douglas Seaman, Nassau County Engineering Services Director, concerning the recent tropical storm and its aftermath. Seaman reported that 14 inches of rain fell on the Bryceville Fire Department in a 24 hour period and that Nassau County had 28" of rainfall for the month.

Benefit for Johnson Family a successful "labor of love"
     The Baker County community came together Saturday to help raise money for the family of Milton Oshay Johnson. Johnson, a sophomore at Baker County High School, was paralyzed in an accident August 19 while at football practice for the Wildcats.

Lake Butler woman hospitalized after crashing into police car
     A 68-year-old Lake Butler woman was hospitalized Friday night after crashing into a Bradford County Sheriff’s deputy who pulled out in front of her while making a U-turn. Linda T. Barber was taken to North Florida Regional Medical Center in serious condition after her vehicle hit the unmarked patrol car and went off the road and down an embankment before impacting a fence and a tree.

Clay approves adoption of tentative budget, millage rate
     GREEN COVE SPRINGS, FL - Clay County Manager, Fritz Behring, presented the Clay County Board of Commissioners a $333.3 million tentative budget to fund the operations of county government for the fiscal year that begins October 1 at Tuesday’s BCC budget hearing.

Commissioners approve $99.6 million budget for Columbia County
     Columbia County employees will get a raise after a $99,592,241 budget was approved by commissioners for the upcoming fiscal year. The 7.891 ad valorem rate is up slightly from 7.853 approved in 2008, but is still anticipated to bring in less revenue due to the additional tax exemptions approved by voters.
