It’s Fair weather It’s Fair weatherPOSTED 10/02/2008 - It's that time of year again. Lower temperatures are arriving, Autumn is in the air and it's county fair weather time.
Folks of all ages turn out each year for funnel cakes, corn dogs and don’t forget those Midway rides. For some it’s a tradition, for others just a night out, but for all it is part of the American landscape. A county fair is just a special place to be. Somehow a funnel cake becomes a sublime treat to enjoy as you walk throughout the fairgrounds as the screams of kids (and adults) echo from the spinning and tilting amusement rides. Over in the exhibit hall, you can browse information from area businesses and schools and listen to those lucky few who have achieved bragging rights on winning a blue ribbon. The livestock shows offer a look at now only a great group of animals, but serve as a testimony of the hard work and dedication of their young owners in 4-H and FFA. So whether it that last corn dog, a goldfish in a bag, or just another fond memory, we all take something home from the fair. The first of the area fairs to get underway will be the Baker County Fair beginning this Friday, October 3. The fair will feature a rodeo, livestock competition, midway, petting zoo and much more. It will run through October 11. Call 904-259-7314 or check out the website www.bakercountyfair.org for more information and daily entertainment and events.
