Fred Blease Stivender, Sr.

September 29, 2008 - Mr. Fred Blease Stivender, Sr. age 67, of St. George, Ga. passed away in his home on Saturday September 27, 2008. Mr. Stivender was born in Sebring, Fl. on August 14, 1941 to the late Simmie Blease and Helen King Stivender and has lived in St. George for the passed 35 years.

He attended and graduated from Paxon Senior High School in 1959. During his high school career, Fred was president of the Student Council and captain of the football team in his junior and senior years. Immediately upon graduating from high school, Fred enlisted in the United States Army where he served three consecutive tours in Vietnam as a Special Forces advisor to the Army of Vietnam. While assigned to Vietnam, Fred was awarded two Purple Hearts, one Bronze Star, one Silver Star, three Air Medals and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry.

Fred was a Construction Engineer Supervisor, and the person who helped establish our current modern day infrastructure for underground telephone systems. Fred was an outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He had an entrepreneurial spirit and started several successful businesses. He is predeceased by his brother; Kurtis King.

Family members include his wife of 40 years Barbara Ann Giles Stivender; four children; Martha (Gregg) Chapman, Melissa (Michael) Burnsed, Helen (Ronald) Hall all of St. George, Ga. and Fred, Jr. (Lori) Stivender of Macclenny, Fl. brothers; Simmie Stivender of Houston, TX. and Kenneth Stivender of Jessup, Ga. Six Grandchildren; Jason, Brian, Alicia, Kyle, Trace and Kristi.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday September 30, 2008 at 3:00 pm In the FERREIRA CHAPEL with Father Anthony Sebra as celebrant. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Baker County; Fl. Following the service the family will have a reception at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Macclenny, Fl. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until service time Tuesday.
