Clay approves adoption of tentative budget, millage rate

Clay approves adoption of tentative budget, millage rate

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, FL - Clay County Manager, Fritz Behring, presented the Clay County Board of Commissioners a $333.3 million tentative budget to fund the operations of county government for the fiscal year that begins October 1 at Tuesday’s BCC budget hearing.

The adopted tentative budget calls for a countywide property tax millage rate of 7.0 mills or $7.00 per $1,000 of assessed valuation. This is the same millage rate as last fiscal year but will generate approximately 9.49% less revenue than the current fiscal year estimate due to property tax revenue reductions and a downturn in the state’s housing market.

County Manager Behring explained that his proposed budget was "very tight" and recommended a month by month monitoring of revenues by both the BCC and Constitutional Officers during this time of economic contraction.

The second public hearing on the adopted tentative budget has been scheduled for Tuesday, September 30 at 5:05 p.m. in the BCC Meeting Room, fourth floor, Clay County Administration Building, 477 Houston Street, Green Cove Springs.

The Board of County Commissioners has approved the following speed limit changes which will be implemented in October of 2008:

• Greenwood Subdivision, Doctor’s Inlet, speed limit will be 15 mph throughout the subdivision unless otherwise posted.
• Bluejay Road, speed limit has been increased from 25 mph to 35 mph.
