Fall Suwannee River Jubilee, Mystic River and Southern Rukus to entertain

POSTED 10/01/2008 - If you’re bored and have nothing to do this weekend, you need to visit the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park.

The Fall Suwannee River Jubilee gets the weekend started Thursday, Oct. 2 and runs through Saturday, Oct. 4. Hosted by the Dixie Echoes, one of the greatest Southern gospel quartets ever, this weekend of gospel music will feature a three-day battle of the quartets in the beautiful SOSMP amphitheatre with the Dixie Echoes, Dove Brothers, Dixie Melody Boys and the Blackwood Brothers.

Southern Rukus 

Gates open to the amphitheater at 5:30 p.m. each evening Thursday - Saturday and the singing gets underway at 7:30 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs or fold ups as this is outside in the beautiful North Florida fall weather. Tickets are available at the door for $38 for the three days or $15 per evening. Accommodations for the weekend are also still available if you would like to camp, bring your RV or rent a cabin.

That’s just the beginning! Friday night, Oct. 3 in the Music Hall will be Mystic River, a duo who have performed more than 1,000 shows and have been called "the most phenomenal duo in music history." Taylor or "T" as he’s known, and Key, his duo partner, play country, pop and psychedelic music. "T" plays multiple instruments and sings while Key sings and plays violin or fiddle. Influenced by the Eagles, America, Moody Blues and the Beatles, this duo performs non-stop and encourages the audience to sing along. Admission is free to the Friday night event in the SOSMP Music Hall. Dinner and beverages will be available at regular prices. Doors open at 6 p.m., show gets underway at 7 p.m.

On Saturday night, Oct. 4, get your dancing shoes on and be prepared for a real country treat in the Music Hall when the Southern Rukus Band comes to the SOSMP. Southern Rukus will heat

up the house when they take the stage to entertain the folks at the SOSMP.

This five-piece band performs a mixture of New Country, Old Country, Southern Rock and Blues. Comprised of Thomas Blake on vocals, Dennis Pries on drums, Jessie Wagner on rhythm and vocals, Phil Jones lead guitar and vocals and Greg Smersh on bass, Southern Rukus band members have years of experience in entertainment from nightclubs to USO tours. The band just signed with Magnum Records and is primed for action. Jessie, one of the founding members, has been all over Europe playing Top 40 and Rock and Roll, including playing in USO shows.

Phil, who began playing guitar at age 7, has shared stages with Mark Wills, John Connelly, Johnny Van Zant and members of the Allman Brothers Band. Greg moved to Florida to attend UF, and stayed. He’s played acoustic guitar with The Countrymen, Paul Rogers Band and Crosstyz. Doors open to the Music Hall at 6 p.m., show begins at 7 p.m. Admission to the Music Hall is $10 this Saturday night.
