Florida dove hunters get unexpected bonus with higher bag limit
     POSTED 10/01/2008 - When Florida’s first phase of the mourning dove season opens Saturday, Oct. 4, hunters will find an unexpected bonus -- an increase in the bag limit from 12 to 15 birds. The daily bag limit is a combined bag limit and applies to both mourning doves and white-winged doves.

Limit animal handouts to the zoo; keep wildlife wild
     Feeding wildlife can cause animals to become a nuisance and can be harmful to their health, according to FWC wildlife biologists. Most importantly, it can interfere with their natural survival instincts. FWC officials said feeding wildlife does not help animals and may actually harm them. Also, it is illegal in Florida to feed certain animals, including sandhill cranes, bears, raccoons, foxes, alligators and others.

Boating restrictions lifted from some areas of St. Johns River
     St. Johns River boaters can now access some portions of the river that have been under emergency-rule vessel restrictions for the safety of boaters since August.

     Paul Shafland, director of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) Exotic Fisheries Lab, captured this year’s "Pass It On" Award from the Florida Outdoor Writers Association (FOWA) and Bass Pro Shops.
