Researchers seek Florida kids for 21-year study

Organizers of a national health study are seeking about 3,600 Florida youngsters to track from the womb to their 21st birthdays.

The National Children’s Study announced Friday that more than $3 billion will be spent on the massive research project that will study about 100,000 children nationwide to get understanding into what role genetics and environment play in autism, obesity, asthma, learning disabilities and many other conditions.

Women and children won’t start enrolling until 2010.

The study eventually will include 3,600 children from Baker, Orange, Hillsborough and Miami-Dade counties.

The annual Beaches Trade Show will be held November 17 from 5-8 p.m. at UNF's University Center. Cost is $275 for a six-foot table and $300 for an eight-foot table.

FCCJ to host Fall Job Fair

The Rosanne R. Hartwell Women's Center, WorkSource and the Career Development Centers at Florida Community College invite job seekers to meet and interview with local employers at their Fall Job Fair October 22 from 9 a.m.-noon.

The Job Fair will be held at the Florida Community College Advanced Technology Center at401 W. State Street in Jacksonville. It is free and open to the public.

Job seekers are encouraged to dress as if for a job interview and to bring copies of their résumés. For more information call 904-646-2300.

Employers wishing to participate are reminded that reservations are required and space is on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration includes the opportunity to list your available jobs on the College's electronic Job Board, College Central Network.
