Macclenny Fire Department gets new engine
     POSTED 10/10/2008 - City of Macclenny residents enjoy the protection of a full time fire department that has maintained an ISO (Insurance Services Organization) rating of Class Four over the past several years. In addition, the department, and especially Fire Chief Buddy Dugger has required extensive training for all of their firefighters including those working part time.

     A Benefit Raffle for Milton "Oshay" Johnson will raise funds for the family’s continuing medical and living expenses. Johnson, a sophomore at Baker County High School in Glen St. Mary suffered severe injuries on the practice field on August 19.

Callahan students treated to Native American presentation
     POSTED 10/09/2008 - Jimmy Sawgrass, a Muskogee Indian, and his troupe visited Callahan's Intermediate School Friday and I got to be there for part of it. He did a lot of face painting and also sold fox tails, tomahawks and other items of interest.

Taylor holds Firewise Community meeting
     POSTED 10/08/2008 - The community of Taylor has participated in the Community Wildfire Protection Plan program since 2006 hosting several CWPP meetings, to draft the plan and to organize upcoming events. Taylor has also hosted two community education events and a community yard sale designed to share Firewise information. The Taylor Firewise Community Meeting was the final step in the community's efforts to gain recognition as a Firewise Communities/USA community for 2008.

     POSTED 10/07/2008 - There will be a fundraiser for the family of 19-year-old Kyle Newman at the Cash Cow Country Store in Macclenny, Florida. Kyle was tragically killed in a car accident Sunday evening.

SBA Disaster Loan Outreach Center opens in Duval County
     The U.S. Small Business Administration announces today the opening of a Disaster Loan Outreach Center at the Duval County, Jacksonville, Florida Monday, October 6 at 10 a.m. in the Regency Square Regional Building. Opening of this Center will make it convenient for disaster survivors affected by the Tropical Storm Fay that occurred August 18 - September 12, 2008 to apply for disaster loan assistance.

Teen dies in Baker County accident
     A Baker County teen was killed in a accident on CR 125 south of Glen St. Mary Sunday evening. The accident happened about 7:00 p.m. just south of the Woodlawn Road intersection. Police believe the driver of the truck may have overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle. The truck then overturned several times ejecting one passenger.

Union ambulance involved in Gainesville crash
     A Union County ambulance transporting a patient to Shands Medical Center in Gainesville was involved in an accident Sunday night on NW 13th Street. A paramedic and the driver of the other vehicle were injured.
