Candidates spending millions just in Florida
POSTED 10/09/2008 - If you’ve turned on the television lately, it’s a safe bet that you haven’t watched for more than a few minutes before seeing an advertisement for one of the presidential candidates.
With John McCain and Barack Obama heading into their final month of campaigning, both parties have stepped up advertising across the nation. Battleground states like Florida have received a lion’s share of the revenue especially for Obama. He has outspent McCain on television ads by 3 to 1 in the state.
A non-partisan study released Wednesday by the Wisconsin Advertising Project shows both candidates spend a combined $28 million on television ads from September 28 through October 4. Obama outspent McCain by $6 million.
Ohio, a traditional swing state in presidential elections, drew the most advertising dollars as the Obama camp spent $2.2 million and the McCain team spent $1.7 million.
Florida attracted the second highest spending with $2.2 million for Obama, while the McCain campaign spent $659,000.
The study also reported that both candidates’ campaigns have been more negative than their 2004 predecessors, President Bush and Democratic Sen. John Kerry.
