Fernandina’s new fire chief starts November 3 Fernandina’s new fire chief starts November 3The City of Fernandina Beach has named Daniel R. Hanes of Plantation, Florida, as their next Chief of the Fire/Rescue Department. The City received over 40 applications for the position and it conducted a thorough and comprehensive process to replace the former Chief Danny Leeper who retired July 7, 2008. Mr. Hanes has almost 27 years with the City of Fort Lauderdale, Florida Fire Department, with the last 11) years as Battalion Chief. He holds a Bachelor Degree from St. Thomas University and many certifications in the Fire and Rescue field. Mr. Hanes will assume the Fire Chief position on November 3. According to a press release from City Manager Michael Czymbor, Chief Hanes will have a starting salary of 75,000.00. One of his first duties will be to select a replacement for deputy chief and fire marshal. |
