Fresh Produce Daily
Fresh Produce Daily
OCTOBER 22, 2008 - It's just like the sign says.
Gene Godbolt, a retired over-the-road truck driver of twenty odd years brings only the freshest produce to Glen St. Mary. Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to around 3:00 pm the Baldwin resident makes the trip to the Jacksonville Farmer’s Market and surrounding growers to bring the best to Baker County.
Godbolt says he has been selling fresh produce off and on over the last 15 years to help supplement around the house, now he does so to help supplement his Social Security income.
"I was born in South Carolina on a farm, my Daddy share cropped and we ate right out of the garden every day" said Godbolt.
"I like his tomatoes because they are better than Winn Dixie’s" said Ivie Raulerson who is a
regular customer.
"I only buy #1 Grade tomatoes, they’re the best and that’s what people like" said Godbolt.
His tomatoes come from Tennessee, the cucumbers are from Florida and South Carolina, and the citrus has been coming out of south Florida. Godbolt advised me that his collards, mustard, and turnip greens are cut fresh daily right from Mr. Harvey’s farm just down the road in Glen St. Mary.
If you are looking for some of the most beautiful tomatoes that are out of this world with flavor, stop by and see Gene at the old carwash there on Hwy 90 just west of Wildcat Drive in Glen St. Mary, you won’t be disappointed.
