Officials applaud partnership to restore St. Johns River
     OCTOBER 28. 2008 - Florida Governor Charlie Crist joined Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Secretary Mike Sole, Jacksonville Mayor John Peyton, St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD) Executive Director Kirby Green, and a host of community leaders on Monday at the St. Johns River. The group was on hand to promote and applaud a plan to improve the river.

FDLE encourages parents to know whose door kids are knocking on
     The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) has launched a Halloween-themed radio public service announcement designed to encourage Florida families to sign up for the Florida Offender Alert System. The system sends e-mail alert notifications when registered sexual offenders or predators move into a neighborhood or any other location designated by the user.

Fay victims with insurance may still be eligible for disaster assistance
     As the Nov. 10 deadline to apply for disaster assistance approaches, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the State Emergency Response Team (SERT) are reminding those individuals who were initially denied assistance because they have homeowners' or flood insurance that they may still be eligible for assistance.

UNF Police Department conducts car seat safety inspections
     The University of North Florida Police Department will conduct car seat safety inspections from 8 a.m. until noon on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at the UNF Child Development Center (Building 49), which is located near the 9A/St. Johns Bluff entrance on campus.
