Game 7
Playing on a short week always scares a coach. Due to a planning day for Duval County schools, our game was played on Thursday night. That meant moving our entire weekly schedule up one day. As the coach, it is my responsibility to make sure our kids are focused in enough time and make sure we as a team are prepared to play one day earlier. That nervous feeling stayed with me all the way up until kickoff. I had no idea if our kids were ready or if they were just a little too confident in themselves. Turns out, they were a little of both.
We started the game by scoring on our first three possessions and ended up with a 28 to 6 lead at halftime. By the end of the game, we had over 400 yards of offense and a good, solid win to show for our efforts. Our senior quarterback, Kentrall Mims, really took charge in this game. Kentrall ended the game with 79 yards rushing and 129 yards passing. This might have been his best game of the year. But as it has been all year, our defense is the secret to any success we have. It has long been said, "Offense wins games, defense wins championships." and any accolades this team receives is because of our defense. Our defensive staff, led by defensive coordinator Steve Shields, does a great job game-planning each week and putting us in position to win every game.
This week we play Bishop Snyder High School. This is a district game and a must win for us if we have any post-season play in mind. Bishop Snyder is a very well-coached team and I know they will be ready to play this week. I have a lot of respect for Coach Bobby Harrison and his staff at Bishop Snyder and am looking forward to a great game. Hope to see everyone over at Bishop Snyder for this game on Friday night.
GO INDIANS!!!
