Wildlife officials to test hunter-harvested ducks for avian influenza
     NOVEMBER 4, 2008 - Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and United States Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services biologists will collect samples from hunter-harvested ducks to test for highly pathogenic avian influenza – H5N1. Sampling will occur at various times during the migratory game bird hunting season at several duck-hunting hot spots throughout Florida.

New options for hunters who camp on Ocala WMA
     Hunters planning to camp during the upcoming general gun hunting season on the Ocala Wildlife Management Area (WMA) will have some new options to consider this year. The general gun season in Ocala WMA is Nov. 8 through Jan. 4, 2009, except in the Church Lake Unit, where it is Nov. 8-16 and Nov. 22-30.

Recreational Gulf red snapper and South Fla. spotted seatrout seasons closed
     The recreational harvest seasons for red snapper in the Gulf of Mexico and spotted seatrout in South Florida closed on November 1. These closures occur each year to help rebuild overfished red snapper stocks in the Gulf and maintain the abundance of spotted seatrout in Florida waters.
