Incumbent David Owens did not seek re-election. Wortham received 63,601 votes easily outdistancing Richards with 20,959. In the County Commission District 3 race, Travis Cummings carried 9,191 votes to opponent Ron Raymond’s 3,630. A Clay County Charter amendment that would reduce the number of commissioners from seven to five was leading with 78 percent of the vote. Just two years ago voters approved a charter amendment to add two more seats making one a chairman. Another amendment cutting commissioners pay also was passed by voters. Voters also okayed a straw poll asking if alcohol sales should be allowed to start at noon on Sundays. |
