Tree lighting at St. Johns Town Center

The holidays get an early start at the St. Johns Town Center with the Lighting of the Great Tree in the second phase Town Square near Cantina Laredo on November 15. Everyone is invited to an evening of live music, strolling entertainment, food sampling, and the official arrival of Santa and a countdown to the Lighting of The Great Tree.

Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway Association meeting

The Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway Association will examine the importance of the waterway to the southeastern U.S. at its annual meeting on November 20-21 in Jacksonville. The meeting, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, will focus on new regional strategies to maintain and promote this vital transportation link.

Stretching over 1,200 miles from Norfolk, Va., to Miami, the waterway is a recreational and commercial transportation route that could be much better utilized to move cargo along the eastern seaboard and relieve highway congestion, according to AIWA.

Job fair

A job fair and career expo sponsored by WorkSource is scheduled 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 12 at the office of Beaches Emergency Assistance Ministry (B.E.A.M.) in Jacksonville Beach. Jacksonville Legal Aid will also be on hand to answer questions.

Public workshop

A public workshop to discuss transportation improvements to the new I-295 interchange at Commonwealth Avenue has been scheduled for 6:00 p.m. December 4 at the Florida Department of Transportation Urban Office Training Facility at 2198 Edison Ave. The Department is conducting a study for the interchange that will improve safety, capacity and operations.
